Departure Day!!

The day has finally come to be done with boat projects, provision all the ship stores, fill tanks, and drop the dock lines to head out into the beginning of this adventure!!

After a very tearful goodbye, my traveling companions Jeff and Kim, and I pulled away from the dock to head down Long Island Sound to Port Jefferson for a couple of days.

Jeff and Kim, traveling companions and mentors!!

The sun started to beat down as we motored along (no wind to sail…boooo), thankful for whatever breeze we could get, a very large tanker passed us by. This started a conversation about ships we would meet up with along the way. I definitely want to stay as far away from these guys as possible!! We then passed a log about 20’ long that was floating in the Sound and yes, I want to stay away from these guys too!!

We finally arrived at Port Jeff around 7:15 just as the sun was setting and it was absolutely beautiful!! We found a perfect spot to anchor then proceed to have a great dinner of Ramen noodles and celebratory Manhattans supplied by my good friend Tony (excellent batch, Tony!!)

As the day draws to a close, I want to thank all of my friends and family for the wonderful send off and wish for a safe adventure!! I also want to thank my lovely wife Denise for always being by my side, supporting me with this trip, and being my rock overall. You are my inspiration…❤️❤️❤️
