After we came out into Winyah Bay, we turned to go to our first stop that didn’t involve an anchor since we left Lady’s Island Marina. We had two nights reserved at Harborwalk Marina in Georgetown SC and we were looking forward to stretching our legs, unlimited hot water showers, and heading to a restaurant for a meal.
I was pleasantly surprised as we approached the dock and two dockhands were waiting for us. We had to sneak in around the front of a big boat with a big anchor sticking out but meh, no problems for the Infinity crew!! It took about a minute to get us tied in, shore power hooked up, and getting Infinity cleaned up and shipshape. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures so just use your imagination. We had a great time in Georgetown which was the exact opposite of the last time I was there when Pegu Club started having engine problems. I do have to say that if we had been there without the engine problems, it would have been just as enjoyable this time!!
The day came for us to move on up the Waccamaw River towards Myrtle Beach. We planned on stopping at Osprey Marina so we could stage up to make a long day thru Myrtle Beach and stop at St James Marina. Osprey Marina has some good reviews but what a hidden gem this place is. The people are exceptionally nice, the marina is tucked into an old sand quarry so it’s very well protected, and it’s the perfect distance, for a boat that goes 6 knots, from Georgetown. We ended up staying a couple of nights because we enjoyed it so much. Again, I don’t have any pics as the Admiral was talking them all so here’s a picture of some dinosaur bones…

We departed from Osprey Marina at first light and headed towards Myrtle Beach. We had 18 bridges to go under or pass thru plus we had the challenge of the infamous Rock Pile before we got to St James Marina. We were super lucky to have the current running with us so our speed over ground was going to get us to our next stop with plenty of time to spare.
As we motored along, we saw a couple of golf courses we had played on a visit to Myrtle Beach and we made a mental note to plan to visit the area again in the future. We enjoyed this section of the trip as it was nice and smooth plus there was a lot of huge houses to gawk at along the ICW.
The next obstacle in the route was the Rock Pile. This is a 3-mile stretch of the ICW where the Army Core of Engineers had to blast out ledge thru the entire length. Well, they must of had a small budget for dynamite cos they made it pretty narrow. This section has claimed a lot of boats over the years cos people would run into the ledges while passing other boats or just not paying attention. We got to it at a great time of year as there’s not a lot of people out this early. I can see that it would be very stressful if you were trying to pass someone in there…yikes!! So, no pics…🤷.
Once we got thru there, the day went by without any further issues so we finished up the day pulling into St James Marina to wait out some weather.
Up next, St James Marina and the crew heads home…
