Infinity

Sailing in Gardiner's Bay

Infinity is our 2000 Catalina 34MKII, hull #1502. She is a standard rig, wing keeled, single helm beauty that sails very nicely, is very forgiving, and can hold her own against other sailboats on Long Island Sound. We became her caretakers in 2014 after a couple of years of searching for just the right boat. It wasn’t love at first sight though as she had been closed up most of the summer (we looked at her in August) with a full holding tank and water in the bilge and she was a wee bit…ummm…stinky. We are so glad that first impressions aren’t always lasting ones though as she has come a long way since that first meeting.

The Catalina 34 is a long running series of coastal cruisers built by Catalina Yachts. Infinity originally started out life as Falcon in Mystic CT. The original owners sailed the waters of New England for 13 years before she came to us, and it was evident that they truly enjoyed owning and sailing her as she was in excellent shape when we bought her.

Of course, we really wanted to make her our own (who doesn’t do this with a new-to-you boat??), so we embarked on a pretty aggressive refit of things we felt needed to be upgraded or improved upon. I like to say that we have pretty much brought every major system, excluding the engine (which is in great shape with almost 1,600 hrs), into the 21st century one way or another. New sails, new interior, completely new sanitation system, a full suite of Raymarine electronics, AIS, ground tackle, davits…. well, you get it. After 9 years of picking away at the list, we think we’ve just about covered everything even though things still pop into my head sometimes…

So now the question is: What do you do with a boat that is ready for some serious adventure? Well, you go to the Bahamas, of course!! Let the stories begin…..
